Before becoming an Art Therapist/ Counselor, I had a 15 year career as an Educator and Administrator in art and children’s museums. I facilitated viewing and making art that was based on personal experience. It seemed to bring people to a place where they felt seen and heard. In fact, people would begin sharing stories that the art helped them remember.
As an Art Therapist/ Counselor I help clients make connections between their emotions, patterns of behavior, and beliefs. I provide a judgment-free zone where you can talk about things you find difficult to discuss with loved ones. After-all, they have their beliefs about who you are to them and they can be biased in their feedback. I get to be an objective listener who can help you identify positive behavior patterns that you can strengthen.
I have been a student of yoga and meditation for over 25 years. Practicing how to be more comfortable in my body and accepting of myself has led me to experience more joy. I want that for others, too.
I have earned a BFA in Printmaking, and an MS in Art Education, as well as an MA in Counseling and Art Therapy. The first two from the University of Tennessee/ Knoxville and latter from Southwestern College in Santa Fe, NM.
Printmaking is a very discipline-based, process-oriented modality and appealed to my interest in meditation through art as an undergraduate student. I bring a mindfulness-based approach to my counseling practice as well.
